Overview

Impetigo is a highly contagious superficial bacterial skin infection most commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Group A Streptococcus. It primarily affects children and presents as honey-colored crusted lesions or fluid-filled blisters. It spreads through direct contact and can be easily treated with antibiotics.

  • Red sores that quickly rupture and ooze, then form honey-colored crusts
  • Fluid-filled blisters (bullous impetigo)
  • Itching in affected areas
  • Sores most commonly around the nose and mouth
  • Lesions spread easily to other areas through scratching
  • Surrounding skin may appear red and inflamed

Care Instructions

  5. Keep affected areas covered to prevent spreading to others.
  6. Do not share towels, clothing, or bedding until the infection has cleared.
